Effectiveness of Education Program on High School Males Students' Knowledge about Smoking

Abstract
Objective(s): To evaluate high school male students' knowledge about substance use, to determine the effectiveness of the education program on high school mal students' knowledge about substance use.
Methodology: A quasi-experimental (pre-posttest) design was carried out to determine the effectiveness of an educational program on knowledge of high school students about substance use in AL-Kut city. The study was started from 20th h September 2022 to 24th November 2022. The sample was non-probability (purposive sample) sample of (60) student were selected according to the study that are working in Al Kut Education Directorate. The data were collected by direct interview using specific questionnaire that’s composed of two parts (59) items which are: Part (1) Socio-demographic characteristics which included 8 items. Part (2) which deals with high school mal students' knowledge about substance use and includes 51 items. Data were analyzed by using (SPSS) package version (25). Descriptive data through determination of: Frequency, percentage, mean of score and standard deviation. Inferential statistical data analysis approach: used by enforcement of the T-test and ANOVA used for determining the association between Socio-demographic characteristics and students' knowledge.
Results: results reveal that there was a highly significant difference between the pre-test knowledge score (poor level 100%) and the post-test knowledge score of the study group for students' knowledge about substance use (Good level 100%), while the control group was no significant difference between the post-test knowledge score (poor level 86%) and the pre-test knowledge score (poor level 90%).
Conclusions: The results of the current study showed a strong correlation between students' knowledge of substance use and their age, fathers' occupation, fathers' educational level, and monthly income.
Recommendations: According to the findings, high schools should include a course on substance abuse and its effects in their curricula. encouraging the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to work together to prevent and combat substance use among this group of people.
